Baroque Architecture

Baroque architecture is a lavish style of architecture, design and interior art which originated in Italy during the Renaissance period, and expanded to other parts of Europe, eventually, the U.S., and Asia. It is distinguished by highly elaborate ornate forms, vivid colors, large-scale decorations, and intricate geometric patterns. Baroque architecture draws on many influences, from antiquated Rome to Baroque architecture during the French Revolution. It is a blend of the best elements from a wide variety of artistic inspirations. This article will explain the fundamentals of Baroque architecture.

Baroque architecture came into existence when wealthy Romans discovered about the ancient Greek use of domes to protect themselves and as meeting places during wars. The first fortresses were built from heavy slabs of limestone and were then painted with costly colors which gave them a luxurious and lavish look. Later during the Renaissance the baroque architecture began to take shape when the Florentine architects and their pupils learned to create similar fortresses using their individual architectural styles. This was the beginning of the Renaissance architecture we have today.

There are several types of Baroque architecture. One is the Neoclassicism architecture. It is a tall, symmetrical main structure and uses large-sized art pieces like the dome or reflections with gilded gold. Later, Neoclassicism was replaced by the French style. Here small-sized art pieces were combined with large-sized pots of plaster. This style of architecture is characterized by open spaces that are often decorated with large-scale paintings and sculptures.

The Neoclassicism style is distinguished by its prominent characteristic, the rounded shapes. The most famous example would be the Vitruvian dome, which is often found in museums across the globe. Baroque architecture is influenced by Neoclassicism, which uses real stone elements, usually combined with copper, glass and steel. In contrast, the French style is distinguished by irregular forms and sharp angles. The most distinctive characteristics of the French style are the use gilded, colored or even leather on decorative or floor tiles.

Baroque architecture can be found in a variety of buildings like the Uffizi Palace in Florence, the Uffizi Museum in Florence, the Royal Castle in Granada, the Tivoli Gardens in Venice and the Alhambra Palace in Cordoba, the Gothic churches in Flanders and in Switzerland and Switzerland, as well as castles, fortresses and palaces in Spain, Turkey and Russia. Some of the most famous examples of baroque architecture are the Gothic cathedrals that are part of the Roman Catholic Church and in the Russian Orthodox Church. The Baroque style is also evident in some of the most famous works of art by artists such as Michelangelo, Picasso, Braque & Gris, Monet, Chares, Warhol and others.

Some of the most striking interior structures were constructed using Baroque architecture. One of the most famous examples is the Alhambra, with its unique roof structure that looks like an oversized pile of pillows. This type of structure was popularized by the Viennese master architect Peter Eisenman during the late 1890s. However, it is not quite clear what the motivation behind the Alhambra was. Some experts say that the structure was influenced by the twisting roads of Muslim traders who once traveled to the region. Others suggest that the Alhambra is influenced by the churches’ towers in the Mediterranean region.

Another striking feature of baroque architecture is the use of large wooden panels as its main decoration. These panels were cut into sections or formed to the shape of the section they covered. The wood that is used for these paneling roofs can be rosewood or doubloon (beef). Other materials used in interior design that is baroque include copper, bronze, glass, wrought iron, wood, stone and mosaic tiles. While mosaics are often used in places of worship but other spaces can be made with other materials like ceramic tiles.

architecture The use of highly decorative metalwork is among the most striking features of baroque architecture. Examples of this would include elaborately decorated doorways with intricate grommets, beautiful door chains, gilded handles , and spindles on chairs and furniture. In the baroque era metalwork was a common feature in baroque buildings like homes, public buildings and buildings for recreation.
